I’m happy to share with you my first environment project inspired by the Brookhaven Hospital in the Silent Hill game. My purpose was to study the indoor environment production. I couldn't have finished this project without help of training videos on ArtstationLearning and YouTube. Can't thank you enough.
First of all, I organized project folders and files according to the way used in game studios so I could make changes faster and easier.
During the blockout I built a composition based on reference images, with multiple points of interest, in accordance with the metrics.
The next step was to create modular walls using tileable textures. To add more variety, I made damaged versions and blended them with Vertex Paint.
Determined the number of assets, I began to model and texture them, moving from large to small. The mesh is dense enough for the picture I wanted to get in the final render (optimized with Nanite).
The most surprising part of the project was the decals. To study, I created my own procedural leakage texture in Substance Designer and the rest was taken from Quixel Megascans library. It's amazing how decals can bring life to the environment in a short time.
Lighting was the most challenging part for me, and I decided to learn the basics about light sources and ray traced shadows in William Faucher's video lessons.
